Welcome to the Sikhs of Sussex (SOS) where our vibrant tapestry of culture, history, and community intertwines. Our mission? To be the living bridge connecting generations, ensuring the timeless beauty of our history, the richness of our culture, and the exquisite flavours of our cuisine are embraced by all.
In our community, formal roles like Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary have evolved, a far cry from our humble beginnings. Today, our dedicated officers, committee members, volunteers, and organizers eagerly await each event, acquiring tickets just like every enthusiast. Forget membership fees – our doors are wide open, welcoming all who wish to partake in the magic of our society's functions by securing tickets in advance.
Our Vision:
· To be the heartbeat that serves and inspires our communities.
· To weave a vibrant tapestry that enhances the social well-being of our community.
· To be the storyteller that raises awareness of Indian culture, unveiling its history and values.
· To be the architect of unity within the community, crafting an enriched tapestry for both members and the wider community.
· To curate and elevate experiences, hosting events integral to the Indian calendar like Vaisakhi (Baisakhi) in April and Diwali in November.
· To operate as a non-profit artisan, seeking external funding to craft unique and subsidized activities and events.
· To be the collaborator, building harmonious relationships with all local organizations, including fellow Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community groups.
· To be the advocate, providing counsel and wisdom to external organizations in the best interests of our membership.
· To be the philanthropist, actively supporting charitable fundraising, causes, and organizations on both local and national stages.
· To be the champion of fairness, standing against discrimination in all its forms.
· To evolve continually, introducing fresh and captivating activities aligned with our society's core, creating a dynamic and inclusive community experience.
